SYRAH
and VIOGNIER
An outstanding wine, Côte-Rôtie is the only appellation in the northern Côtes du Rhône to be allowed to add Viognier to Syrah.
Côte-Rôtie wines are therefore made up of Syrah (minimum 80 %, maximum 100%) and are supplemented (or not) with Viognier (minimum 0%- maximum 20%).
Syrah, the king of the northern Côtes du Rhône grape varieties, is a red grape which makes quality wines that are very colourful and rich in tannins.
Viognier, a white grape, is also a local grape variety. In Côte-Rôtie, it adds finesse and aroma to the Syrah.
