Grape varieties

Syrah and Viognier

Côte-Rôtie wines are made from Syrah (min. 80% max. 100%), which may be accompanied by Viognier (min. %, max. 20%).

Syrah, the primary grape variety of the northern Côtes-du-Rhône, is a black grape that produces high quality, deeply coloured wines with rich tannins and a potentially great bouquet. The Syrah is at its best in Côte-Rôtie thanks to the attentive work of the winemakers and their controlled yields that produce wines that age extremely well.

Viognier, a white grape, is also a local variety. In Côte-Rôtie, it brings finesse and fragrance, complexity and femininity.

A high quality wine, Côte-Rôtie is the only appellation of the northern Côtes-du-Rhône crus in which Viognier may be added to Syrah.
