The climate

The vines and the wind

Côte-Rôtie benefits from a "Lyonnais" climate: winters are mild, summers hot, and rainfall relatively regular.

Wind plays an important role in the life of the vines. The hillsides, generally south or south-east facing, are relatively protected from the cold north wind, and exposed to the warm southerly wind. This wind has a drying effect, helps to protect the vineyard against disease and speeds up the ripening process.
